Also, the Top Traders themselves shared their trading insights with audience.

You can rewatch it here!

A very big shoutout & thank you to everyone who participated in SG’s Biggest Active Trading Tournament, and especially to our co-organizer Societe Generale, our sponsor the Singapore Exchange (SGX) and all our associated media partners who’ve help make it a success.

INTERVIEW WITH OUR TOP 10 FINALISTS OF SG’S ACTIVE TOURNAMENT

INTERVIEW WITH OUR TOP 10 FINALISTS OF SG’S ACTIVE TOURNAMENT

Interview with Top 10 of the Tournament Leaderboard: Nicky Loh.

This mini-interview series is to showcase some of the prominent participants of the tournament leaderboard and what propels them to be able to trade well.

screenshot-2020-10-06-at-11-29-52

This post was originally posted here. This is Nicky with username @bomfa, who is currently top 3 on the leaderboard, out of over 2,000 participants.

We did a quick lookup on his tournament portfolio here and he has a return of 40.3%!

We asked the questions that followed and this is what he had to say.

How many years have you been trading and which markets do you usually trade?

Nicky:  I have been trading the SG, HK, and US markets for around 10 years.

What’s your profession?

Nicky: I am a Corporate Development Analyst.

How did you start trading and what got you started?

Nicky: I started trading due to my desire to achieve financial freedom as soon as possible. I aspire to start my own hedge fund one day.

So what’s your usual trading plan like?

Nicky: I keep a watchlist with both technical and fundamental indicators. When my buy signal is triggered, I enter into positions that are sized based on my risk appetite.

Then how do you usually determine entry for a particular trade?

Nicky: I typically use fundamental analysis to identify opportunities and then use technical analysis to enter a trade.

How do you usually determine an exit for a particular trade?

Nicky: I use technical analysis to exit a trade. Very often, I already set the target returns before I enter a trade.

Finally, what would you say to new participants & traders of this year’s tournament who want to trade well?

Nicky: I learnt about DLCs through the competition and I absolutely love it. To trade well, it is extremely important to be disciplined and have a trading plan that should be refined over time to maximize the probability of success.

But, it’s not over. FINAL ROUND will begin soon from 12th October to 23rd October, where the tournament’s Top 10 finalists will compete against each other. You may view more details of our tournament’s Final Round as well as their portfolios and trades here.

Interview With Our Top 10 Finalists Of SG’s Active Tournament

Interview With Our Top 10 Finalists Of SG’s Active Tournament

Interview with Top 10 of the Tournament Leaderboard: Kenny Chia.

This mini-interview series is to showcase some of the prominent participants of the tournament leaderboard and what propels them to be able to trade well.

screenshot-2020-10-05-at-15-29-25

This post was originally posted here. This is @kennychia, who is currently top 3 on the leaderboard, out of over 2,000 participants.

We did a quick lookup on his tournament portfolio here and he has a return of 42.2%!

We asked the questions that followed and this is what he had to say.

How many years have you been trading and which markets do you usually trade?

Kenny: I have been trading for around 6 years. I mainly trade in the SG, US, and HK markets.

What’s your profession?

Kenny: I am an undergraduate.

How did you start trading and what got you started?

Kenny: I started in the SG market with blue-chip counters and REITs. I got started after being inspired by the idea of financial freedom and passive income.

So what’s your usual trading plan like?

Kenny: I screen the price charts of counters and focus on those with clear trends or showing signs of a reversal. As opportunities do not come by that often, I tend to hold a concentrated position whenever I come across one.

Then how do you usually determine entry for a particular trade?

Kenny: I use simple support and resistance levels and moving averages to determine the optimal entry price.

How do you usually determine an exit for a particular trade?

Kenny: I exit the position once it reaches my target price or stop-loss price. I will have an initial target price and stop-loss price before entering the position but will review them over time and adjust them if necessary.

Finally, what would you say to new participants & traders of this year’s tournament who want to trade well?

Kenny: Take this opportunity to learn and make as many mistakes as possible. You will find out what works and does not work for you.

But, it’s not over. FINAL ROUND will begin soon from 12th October to 23rd October, where the tournament’s Top 10 finalists will compete against each other. You may view more details of our tournament’s Final Round as well as their portfolios and trades here.

How to Start Trading In The SG Active Trading Tournament 2020 [Tutorial]

How to Start Trading In The SG Active Trading Tournament 2020 [Tutorial]

Singapore’s Biggest & Most Anticipated Trading Tournament is finally happening on Monday, 10th September 2020!

Pre-registration is now open. REGISTER NOW: http://bit.ly/SGATT2020

SGATT 2020

With more than 2,000 participants last year, this year participants will battle it out with other traders, through the trading of an instrument called Daily Leverage Certificate (DLC).

This tournament consists of 2 rounds:

  • Elimination Round (from 10 Sep 2020 – 30 Sep 2020): A free-for-all trading simulation that includes all participants. Top 10 traders based on highest total portfolio returns will be selected. A minimum of four trades for each participant is also required to be the top 10 traders.
  • Final Round (from 12 Oct 2020 – 23 Oct 2020): Top 10 traders will compete against each other. The top 3 traders with highest portfolio returns will win a prize. A minimum of four trades for each participant is also required to be the top 3 traders.
  • Join the tournament here: http://bit.ly/SGATT2020

What is a Daily Leverage Certificate (DLC)?

Daily Leverage Certificates (DLC) are exchange-traded financial products that enable investors to take a leveraged exposure to an Underlying Asset, such as an equity index or a single stock (Full list of DLCs). Daily Leverage Certificates replicate the performance of an Underlying Asset versus its previous day closing level, with a fixed leverage factor.

There are two types of Daily Leverage Certificates – Daily Long and Daily Short which enable investors to take a long or short exposure to an Underlying Asset.

Getting Started: what can you do with a DLC?

Long DLCs allow you to generate leveraged gains when the Underlying Asset goes up. On the other hand, Short DLCs increase in value when the Underlying Asset goes down, allowing investors to achieve positive and leveraged gains during market downturn.

Example: 5x Long DBS

5x Long DBS is at S$2. Buy 500 shares of this DLC with S$1000 when DBS is at S$25.

DBS goes up from S$25 to S$25.5, i.e. up 2%.

5x Long DBS will go up from S$2 to S$2.2, i.e. up by 2% x 5 = 10% compared to the previous day close.

Example: 5x Short Tencent

5x Short Tencent is at S$1. Buy 1,000 shares of this DLC with S$1,000 when Tencent is at HK$300.

Tencent goes up from HK$300 to HK$309, i.e. up by 3%.

5x Short DLC will go down from S$1 to $0.85, i.e. down by 3% x 5 = 15% compared to the previous day close.

How to identify a DLC?

For example, a 5x DLC with DBS as an underlying would be known as DLC SG5xLong DBS, with the following ticker DOXW.

You can find the full presentation here.

Next, we had Desmond from Everest Fortune Group, also known as EFG on InvestingNote where he does daily technical ideas and calls. Follow him here.

img_20191204_194505Desmond gave the technical outlook for both the Hang Seng Index and Straits Times Index. Based on technical analysis aspect, it does not particularly bode well for both the indexes for 2020.
